Working Process of Search Engine

After understanding SEO the first thing is to understand the working process of search engine. Search engines perform several activities to deliver search results –

1.Crawling the web pages
2. Indexing
3. Processing
4. Calculating relevancy
5. Retrieving search result.

When you enter some query in search engines, then first search engines crawl the web pages to find relevant information. This task is performed by a software which is known as crawler or a spider (In case of Google it is Googlebot). Spiders follow links from one page to another and index everything they find on their way. It is very difficult task for a spider to visit a site daily to check if they're a new page has been added or an existing page has been modified.

After crawling the web page, the next step is to index its content. The indexed pages are stored in a database. The process of indexing is for identifying the words and expressions that describe the page and assigning the page to particular keywords. There are number of pages, which contains information regarding your query. In that case the search engine starts calculating the relevancy of each of the pages which are indexed in database. Search engine uses various algorithms to calculate relevancy. That is why different search engine gives different search results for the same query.

After calculating the relevancy the last step is retrieving search result and display them in browser from more relevant result to least. This is all about the processing of search engine.
